Its heart is the colors of spruce and dirt
the scent of new life and rot
Within there is a glow
the sun filling the shadows under the trees
with a golden warmth that feels
like dipping cold toes into a warm bath
The forest breathes
sighing from true love of the beauty
of the bird symphony
Though silent within
if you move outward
you discover the scent of blue and gray
a salty breeze with the bite of brine
I didn’t used to be like the stench of it
like rotting seaweed and crab carcasses
but now the water smells sweet to me
like chocolate
the sugar of the cool breeze comforts my soul
the scent like cupping a mug of hot cocoa
nestled in front of the fire
